Botanist ("Botanist", "we", "us", "our") cares about your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Botanist, you agree to this Policy.

Who we are

Botanist is a plant-care app operated by Giglab Limited, located in Kenya. You can reach us at support@botanistapp.com.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo.
• Plant data you add. Plant names and species, photos you upload, watering and care logs, notes, pot and soil details, and reminder settings.
• Approximate location. If you enable weather-based watering, we use your approximate (city-level) location to fetch local weather. You can set or change this in the app.
• Device and notification data. A push-notification token so we can send reminders, plus basic device and app information.

How we use your information

• To provide the service: track your plants, schedule and send care reminders, adapt watering to your local weather, and generate AI plant identification and problem diagnosis.
• To improve the app and fix problems.
• To communicate with you about your account and reminders.
• For marketing and promotion (see "Your plant content and marketing" below).

Your plant content and marketing

Plants and photos you add to Botanist may be featured by us in our marketing, including on our website, app-store listings, and social media. When we feature your content publicly, we credit you by your first name or a display name only, never your full name or email address. We feature content that has been approved for this use, and you can ask us to stop featuring your content at any time by emailing support@botanistapp.com.

AI features

To provide plant identification and problem diagnosis, we send the relevant photo and plant details to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a result. These results are general guidance only and are not professional horticultural advice.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data, subject to any obligations we have to keep certain records.

Your choices and rights {#your-choices}

• Access and update: view and edit your plants and profile in the app.
• Delete your account and data: you can request deletion of your account and its data at any time from our self-service page: https://botanist-dashboard.netlify.app/delete-account. You can also email support@botanistapp.com.
• Notifications: turn reminders off in the app or in your device settings.
• Location and weather: disable weather-based watering in the app.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights such as access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection. Contact us to exercise them.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Botanist is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where it is, we take steps to protect it consistent with this Policy.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date above.
